Graduate resume

A resume without long experience, but not without content

When you are starting out, the experience column is short. That is the moment to let the resume carry something else: internships, projects, education, skills — and what you can already do concretely.

Where to start

Nothing to invent, and above all nothing to inflate. The question is not how to hide the missing years, but where to put what you have already done.

What replaces experience

Four sections already exist in the editor — fill them with something concrete.

  • Internships and summer jobs: tasks you actually did, dates, what you learned — even short ones.
  • Personal or university projects: context, tools used, what the project actually does.
  • Education: specialisations, final-year project, distinction when it works in your favour.
  • Volunteering, associations, competitions, school assignments: they count as much as a job.
  • Skills and languages: what you already master, without inflating the levels.

Which template to pick

The right template depends on what dominates your path, not on fashion.

  • Timeline: shows progression when the experience list is short.
  • Sidebar: puts skills and technologies forward instead of tenure.
  • Minimal: no photo and very airy, so a thin list does not stand out.
  • Classic: the safest when applicant tracking software reads the resume first.
  • Compare them in a click from the gallery — the content stays intact.

Aligning the resume with the posting

The score is exactly what compensates for missing years: it shows what the posting expects.

  • The score out of 100 compares your resume with the posting text, strengths and gaps included.
  • Missing keywords are listed one by one: often a tool you know but never wrote down.
  • The tailored resume rephrases your projects using the offer's wording, without inventing facts.
  • The cover letter starts from the same resume and the same posting, in the posting's language.

Finding offers that take junior profiles

Ten sources queried in parallel instead of a list built by hand.

  • The 10 sources are queried in parallel, deduplicated and filtered by keyword and location.
  • Read the posting: it often shows whether the required experience is firm or flexible.
  • AI ranking orders the offers by relevance to your profile.
  • Every application stays in history with its score and its cost.

Check before sending

  • One page: the Compact and Classic templates are built for that.
  • Consistent dates, and any gap stated in one line rather than left blank.
  • No claim you could not illustrate in an interview.
  • Up-to-date contact details, plus a link to a project or profile if you have one.
  • A second reader: typos cost more when experience is short.

FAQ

First-resume questions

What we hear most often from people starting out.

What do I put in a resume if I have never worked?

Internships, personal or university projects, education, volunteering, skills and languages. The editor has a Projects section built for that, and short experiences still have their place.

Which template for a first job?

Timeline if your path moves forward, Sidebar if skills outweigh tenure, Classic if applicant tracking software reads the resume. Compare all three in a click from the gallery.

Should I write “first job” somewhere?

No. The chronology of the resume speaks for itself. Better to fill the page with what you can do than to add a line drawing attention to what is missing.

How do I get past applicant tracking without experience?

With the Classic template, and above all with the posting's terms present where you actually use them: projects, education, tools. The score lists the ones that are missing.

Can the tool make my internships look bigger?

It rephrases your experiences using the posting's wording, but it adds no fact that does not exist: every paragraph must carry something verifiable. That is the same rule it applies to the texts it writes.
